FEDERALDUCK STAMP PRINT
The Federal Duck Stamp Program This is the historic 75th year of the Federal Duck Stamp program. In 1934 the Duck Stamp was established by the efforts of artist and conservationist Jay "Ding" Darling, and the signature of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Over the years the program has produced a classic, collectable series of artwork by some of the nation's finest wildlife artists. The painting, chosen in a rigorous public contest by a panel of five judges, graces the yearly migratory waterfowl revenue stamp produced by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. All duck hunters are required to buy a Federal Duck Stamp. It is also purchased by stamp collectors, bird watchers, and others committed to habitat conservation. The stamp serves as an annual pass to any of our National Wildlife Refuges. An amazing 98 percent of the purchase price of each stamp is used to acquire wetland habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife. To date the sale of Federal Duck Stamps has generated more than 700 million dollars for the purchase of over 6 million acres of prime waterfowl habitat. Duck Stamp funds have been used to acquire habitat at hundreds of refuges, in nearly every state in our nation. There are 548 national wildlife refuges spread across all 50 states and U.S. territories. A current Duck Stamp can be used for free admission to any national wildlife refuge open to the public. Refuges offer unparalleled recreational opportunities, including hunting, fishing, bird watching and photography.
